• Rebecca Haro said they had been in Yucaipa at a football stadium with her children who play youth football. She said she had to go to a Big 5 store to buy a mouth guard for her stepson. When she arrived in the parking lot, she said, she realized the baby’s diaper needed to be changed, so she laid him down in the back of her truck when she was attacked from behind.

• 2:40 PM: Update: Based on the circumstances, Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division responded and assisted with the investigation. Investigators interviewed multiple individuals, including Emmanuel’s parents Jake and Rebecca Haro. During those interviews, Rebecca was confronted with inconsistencies in her initial statement and declined to continue with the interview. At this point in the investigation, investigators are unable to rule out foul play in the disappearance of Emmanuel. Investigators will continue their investigation to locate Emmanuel Haro. • 12:22 PM: Emmanuel’s grandmother, Mary Beushausen, tells KTLA that the couple “loves their son and wouldn’t do anything to hurt him.” She also says police asked Rebecca to take a lie detector test, but Jake refused until they had a lawyer. • 12:22 PM deputies from the Cabazon Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to the 50000 block of Ramona Street in Cabazon per the request of Child Protective Services (CPS). CPS asked deputies to check if the family was at the residence, but deputies were not able to contact anyone. Deputies advised CPS of their findings.” Source
• 6:00 PM Update: The investigation into the disappearance of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro is continuing. During the last few days, investigators have conducted extensive searches in Yucaipa and Cabazon, looking for Emmanuel and any evidence that might lead to his location and circumstances surrounding his disappearance. • Vincent Hughes, a former lawyer and spokesperson, said that Jake Haro and his wife had their two-year-old child taken from them after their other son was kidnapped last week. He does not represent Rebecca Haro. Source
• LE played a video for the parents. That video was cctv from the jewelry store across the lot from Big5. The lawyer said that the video ‘shows something falling down, then getting up. he says that corroborates Rebecca’s story. Source

• Update: We know the community is deeply concerned about this case and we will continue to provide information, to the extent it does not jeopardize the investigation. Our investigators have followed up on the reported sightings of 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro, but he has not yet been located. Source
• While Emmanuel’s father has retained an attorney, if the parents choose to work with detectives, we welcome their cooperation as we continue efforts to locate Emmanuel.
• We are also aware of the fire reported at a neighbor’s property near the Haro home in Cabazon and have been in contact with the investigators of that incident. James Beushausen, 35, was convicted in July of first-degree murder in the March 15, 2017, death of Jaylynn Amanda Keith, 27. Keith was found with a single gunshot wound to the center of her forehead in the bathtub of the Belardo Road apartment the couple shared.

Assistant District Attorney Michelle Paradise told jurors that Beushausen rendered Keith unconscious, placed her into the tub, then shot her while shielding himself from blood spatter behind a shower curtain. Source

• Text from Jaylynn Keith to a friend: “James has been drinking for the last four days This might be the end for us. This tops it all.”

On March 15, 2017, Keith was found dead in a bathtub with a gunshot wound in the center of her forehead at an apartment on the 600 block of N Bellardo Road. Jaylynn had been planning on leaving James Beushausen, fearing for her safety, when he killed her.

March 14, 2017: Keith texted family members that Beushausen got “psycho on me” during an altercation in which he smashed his cell phone and screamed at her.

Keith was going to tell him she was leaving him after he sobered up and said she was afraid things would get “physically bad” when she told him. In one text message, she relayed to a friend that Beushausen had taken a pistol out of his gun safe, which scared her and caused her to take the safe keys and hide them.

Beushausen provided three statements on the events of Keith’s death that were each contradictory to one another.

• During the 911 call, Beushausen stated that he was asleep and had been awakened by the sound of a gunshot.
• Beushausen later told emergency crews that he had been awakened by an electrical popping sound and that it took him 20 minutes to find Keith.
• Beushausen later told Keith’s father that when he got home, “She (Keith) got up and went and killed herself.” He also said that she was still alive when he discovered her.
• Court documents also revealed that Beushausen stated he had located a 9mm firearm underneath Keith’s right hip and that he handled the firearm and moved Keith’s body.
• An investigation later proved that Beushausen’s statements on finding the firearm behind and underneath Keith’s body were inconsistent.

Phone:

• Beushausen used Keith’s phone to call 911 and was seen using her phone after investigators arrived at the apartment. The prosecutor called the searches “a red herring” and “an excuse to plant a seed because this is supposed to be made up to look like suicide.”

Forensics

Gun:

• A 9mm pistol was found beneath her body, which Palm Springs investigators determined was inconsistent with the theory that Keith shot herself, based on the positioning of her body in the tub.
• Beushausen told investigators that he’d moved her body and the gun after waking up and finding her in the bathroom.

forensic analysis of the scene revealed that the necessary position of Keith’s body to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound would have to be contorted and unlikely.

• Blood splatter was also located on two walls directly to the right and rear of Keith’s head. However, no blood splatter was located on the remaining walls of the bathroom, which was inconsistent with the position of Keith’s body inside of the bathtub. Cleaning wipes were discovered on the bathroom sink.

Investigators said that Beushausen initially assisted the investigation with statements, but Beushausen later declined to cooperate further and invoked his Miranda rights.

• Investigators later learned through multiple interviews with Keith’s family members and an examination of Keith’s cellphone that Beushausen and Keith had been involved in an altercation on the previous morning. Keith described the altercation as Beushausen becoming “Psycho crazy”.

Keith also reported that Beushausen had taken his firearm out of the safe during the altercation. The interviews with relatives revealed that Keith intended on telling him she wanted to leave “when he sobered up” and had already made arrangements with family and friends for another living situation.

Investigators determined that Keith had no history of depression or suicidal thoughts.

April, 2017 After his girlfriend’s death, Beushausen quit his job and moved back to his hometown of McAllen, Texas,

• Shortly after being questioned by detectives, Beushausen “abruptly quit his job” and moved to McAllen, Texas. Palm Springs detectives became concerned that Beushausen’s move to McAllen, a town just north of the Mexican border, would lead to him fleeing the country, so they traveled to Texas this week to apprehend him.

October 18, 2017, he was arrested by Palm Springs investigators in the parking lot of a shopping center.
